Meet Our Team!

Achievements
Rowing came to SMU in 2022 with two local rowers looking to row for their University. That season, the two came home with 3 gold medals at the Atlantic University Championships. In 2023, the team grew into a core team. While creating a fun and inclusive environment, they came back to defend their titles with another four top place finishes at the Championships. This year, the team is expanding their resources and setting nation-wide goals!

Jessica Harmon – Lightweight Women’s Team
Jessica is a fourth year student in environmental science. Born and raised in Tantallon, Nova Scotia, she has had three black labs over the years. Her favourite food group is anything carbs, and if you can’t find her in the boat, you will likely see her on the ski hills. She has rowed for 6 years now and is excited to see what SMU rowing has to bring.

Marina Penner – Heavyweight Women’s Team
Marina is a third year student in environmental studies and geography. All the way from Peace River, Alberta, Marina joined the Novice program in 2023 and has fell in love with the sport since. She particularly loves camping, and enjoys long walks in point pleasant park.

Nathanial Collier – Lightweight Men’s Team
Nathanial, or ‘Nate’ is a third year student studying commerce. Nate found rowing at a young age of 14, and has enjoyed his years of both fun and high performance rowing. Nate also surfs all year round, even in the freezing months! His ‘just for fun’ energy is contagious around the club, and is always up for getting to play around in various crew boats.
